Singapore 2026: Latest Study, Work & Residency Updates
Singapore is one of Asia's most attractive study destinations — globally ranked universities, an English-speaking environment, a safe city, and a strong, merit-based economy. The key thing Indian students must understand for 2026 is that Singapore works differently from the UK or Australia: there's no automatic post-study work visa, so planning matters. Here's a quick, useful roundup.

Work After Studies
Importantly, Singapore does not offer an automatic post-study work visa. Graduates of autonomous universities and polytechnics (NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT, LASALLE, NAFA) can apply for a one-year, non-renewable Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) to stay and look for work, but can only begin working once a valid work pass is approved.
To work, graduates move to an employer-sponsored pass: the Employment Pass (EP) for professionals earning at least SGD 5,000 per month and meeting the COMPASS criteria, or the S Pass for skilled staff earning at least SGD 3,300 per month. The process is employer-driven, so start your job search early.

Study in Singapore
International students need a Student's Pass, issued by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and processed through the online SOLAR system — one of the most efficient student visa processes globally. You'll need an unconditional offer for a full-time course at an approved institution.
Top universities include NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT and SUSS, with English-language entry typically requiring IELTS around 6.0–7.0 depending on the faculty.
Students at approved institutions can work up to 16 hours per week during term and full-time during scheduled breaks, without a separate work pass — but note that students at private institutions not recognised by the Ministry of Manpower generally cannot work, so confirm your institution's status.
PR & Other Residency Options
The job market is strong: international graduates from Singapore's universities had an 87.1% employment rate within six months of graduation, per the 2024 graduate survey.
For permanent residence, most skilled graduates apply via the PTS scheme after holding an Employment Pass or S Pass, typically needing 2–3 years of work in Singapore, through ICA's e-PR system.
A faster (but highly selective) route exists for major investors through the Global Investor Programme.
